ALICE IN CHAINS: Final National Radio Appearance With Whole Band To Re-Air Next Week
September 2, 2005Nationally syndicated radio show "Rockline" will rebroadcast a special encore interview with ALICE IN CHAINS on Monday, September 5 beginning at 8:30 p.m. PT / 11:30 p.m. ET. A show description at the "Rockline" web site reads as follows:
"It is extremely rare for 'Rockline' to re-broadcast a Special Encore show. In fact, we have only done it with two artists, GEORGE HARRISON and ROBERT PLANT. Now, ALICE IN CHAINS can be added to this short, superstar list. We have gotten so many requests from our listeners and our affiliate radio station personnel to air this show once more that we are happy to oblige for this holiday weekend. The following text is what appeared on our website almost exactly two years ago as we broadcast this program as an Encore for the first time.
"Monday July 19, 1999 was a very special evening on 'Rockline' as we presented an evening with ALICE IN CHAINS featuring guitarist Jerry Cantrell, bassist Mike Inez and drummer Sean Kinney, plus a very special unanticipated guest. Jerry and Mike were in our 'Rockline' Los Angeles studio, while Sean was 'somewhere in upstate New York.' We can't remember why there was secrecy, but there was. We think he was in Buffalo, but it really doesn't matter. We were honored to have three members of AIC to discuss the June 29, 1999 album 'Nothing Safe: The Best of the Box', the single CD that was the precursor to the mammoth 3-CD set 'Music Bank', which dropped October 26, 1999. We were told Layne Staley would not take part in the show.
"Introductions were made and the show began. Before long, we received a call from someone claiming to be Layne, listening in Seattle. After much hand wringing and off the air 'can you answer this question about ALICE IN CHAINS,' posturing we realized it truly was Layne. We now had all four members of the band on the show to discuss their entire career, as this was essentially a Greatest Hits package. What resulted was a magical evening to say the least. When we lost Layne in April of 2002 we were informed this was his final national radio appearance with the whole band. We received numerous requests from newspapers, magazines and other media for a copy of the show. With the exception of The Seattle Times, we declined. Never re-broadcast or tampered with, we present a truly Special Encore 'Rockline' with all four members of one of rock's most influential bands ever, ALICE IN CHAINS. No calls for this one. So get ready to record as this may never be broadcast again. It's an evening with all four members of ALICE IN CHAINS on the next 'Rockline'."
